Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Here are the most frequently asked questions and answers from our "Ask the expert". These should get you started or many answers your questions too.

1. How often should I have my furnace cleaned and serviced?

All the manufacturers recommend cleaning and servicing your furnace annually. The U.S. Energy Department says that you increase your equipment by 10% when you keep it maintained. Our technicians know from simple observation that equipment that is not maintained deteriorates significantly when compared to well maintained equipment.

2. How often should I clean or change my filters?

Pets, your children in and out all day, active household, once a month.

  • One or two people in the household and at work during the day, no pets, no allergies, every three months.

3. How long do furnaces last?

It depends on the efficiency and brand of your furnace or air conditioner but generally accepted industry experience is:

  • Furnaces – 10 to 20 years.
  • Air Conditioners – 10 to 15 years
  • Heat Pumps – 15 years

BUT, even if your equipment isn’t worn out, what about operating cost and your confront? Did you know there are major improvements developed by Trane that save you money and help your existing home duct design perform more comfortably. This isn’t just theory; our customers have found it really works.

4. Can central air conditioning be added to my existing unit?

Yes, usually homes have been designed to accommodate air conditioning. Occasionally, we find that the ductwork lacks sufficient volume of airflow or there just isn’t enough space to insert the equipment but this is rare. We don’t mind coming out and checking for you at no charge.

5. What is an Electronic Air Cleaner? Electrostatic Filter?

An electronic air cleaner cleans the air creating a magnetic field using common household current. All particles have a charge so this magnetic field captures them very effectively as the air flows through your ducts. In fact, the Honeywell electronic air cleaner captures particles up to .01 microns in size. Which means it even captures some of the large bacteria and viruses. It traps particles that can’t be seen, such as pollen and dust mite debris. It captures particles that don’t even seem like particles, such as smoke. All this cleaning of your environment goes on continually as long as the fan on your furnace is running. And we can set it up so the fan runs on low speed continually so your environment is being cleaned 24 hours a day.

An electrostatic air filter is a filter similar to the one already in your furnace. It creates static electricity, like you find on clothes coming out of a dryer, that can attract that particles. The strength is not nearly the degree created in the electronic air cleaner powered by a household current.

6. What can I do to protect myself and my family from carbon monoxide poisoning?

  • Have your equipment checked annually.
  • During that check, have a professional carbon monoxide test performed.
  • Have a carbon monoxide detector installed in your home.

7. What king of warranty do you offer?

Our warranties are the best in the industry!

  • One-year parts and labor warranty on any repair.
  • Five-year installation, materials and installation labor warranty, this is beyond your equipment warranty.
  • Five and ten year extended parts and labors warranties available on all Trane equipment.

8. What are your hours?
